What Is Chat-to-Task?

The workflow where messages in team chat are automatically captured as tracked tasks — with owner, deadline, and status — without anyone copying anything to a separate task tool.

Definition

Chat-to-task is a software workflow where AI reads team chat messages, identifies action items, decisions, and commitments, and converts them into tracked tasks automatically. The task carries the source conversation as context, the assigned owner, and any deadline mentioned in the original message ("by Friday", "before the site meeting", etc.).

The term was coined by Convoe to describe the specific workflow that Convoe's Kai AI agent automates.

How Chat-to-Task Differs from Integrations
